Borderlands Pre-Sequel Could Still be Coming To Next Gen

borderlands 101When the new Borderlands Pre-Sequel was announced something was amiss. In all the excitement of the unveiling some people were left bewildered as to why the latest instalment would only feature on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, yet would skip next gen consoles altogether.

Well, despite no confirmation, Gearbox have hinted that Borderlands The Pre-Sequel could still make its way to next gen. Originally the reason the game wasn’t coming to next gen was two fold. 2K Australia (developer) and Gearbox (publisher) both felt that the Borderlands fan base was firmly situated on the Xbox 360 and PS3, and the jump to next gen in the middle of a trilogy was “a little disingenuous.” Secondly 2k Australia felt that there are currently more gamers still on current gen in comparison to next gen.

Although a move has not been ruled out.

2k Australia’s Tony Lawrence stated to GameReactorTV that;

All the Borderlands 2 players are playing on those consoles. That’s the choice they’ve got. So we want to reward those guys…..If fans say ‘hey, we’d really like this on a next-gen console’, well, we’ll think about that, but right now we’re concentrating on the consoles we know’.

As we said, one day maybe, I don’t know. We’ll think about that, see how people react to the game, how much fun they have and whether or not everyone moves on to the next gen fully next year. For now we’re pretty happy with our choice and I think people are going to be to

One problem Gearbox faces is the declining sales of previous gen titles. Many publishers claimed that big name titles such as COD, Assassin’s Creed and Fifa didn’t sell as well last year, in comparison to previous years, because of the difficult decision consumers faced last Christmas. Should they save their money for the next gen consoles or wait for more titles to become available before taking the plunge? Plus the initial £60 RRP on games put lots of people off from making the next gen jump. But despite all that next gen continues to surge forward, whilst previous gen only titles such as Grid Autosport 2014 and Fifa: World Cup Brazil have failed to stir up much in the way of sales.

So with no confirmation of a next gen port for Borderlands The Pre-Sequel I guess we’ll just have to wait for Borderlands 3 for a proper next gen experience. Here’s hoping anyway.
